There are many Catholic organisations in New Zealand, and they give vigour and life to the Church as well as enabling Catholics with a common interest to work together, putting their faith into action for the good of the Church and society.
Some organisations are associated with dioceses or the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference. Others are New Zealand branches of international Catholic organisations, or groups of New Zealand Catholics who are working together in a particular field or ministry. Religious orders are a large group of organisations with diverse charisms and ministries spread across the country.
The organisations listed on this website are national organisations. There are organisations in dioceses and parishes which can be found on diocesan and parish websites.
Religious Orders
\n
Religious orders or congregations are groups of men and women who have taken vows of poverty, chastity and obedience as part of committing their lives to Christ.
\n
Religious orders have different ministries and charisms. All have a commitment to prayer and the spiritual life, but contemplative orders devote themselves primarily to prayer.
Other orders have ministries which involve their members in working in the Church or in the community.
Working for the common good and a just society is a particular responsibility of Catholic lay people, and there are many Catholic organisations actively committed to this work.
